Koyambedu Bus Terminus (CMBT):-
History:-
Chennai had bus terminus at Broadway before 2002. It was 1.5 Acres land area. Due to traffic congestion and bus terminus capacity was not enough to handle buses for both Mofussil Buses and Local buses (MTC). So Tamil Nadu government's Chief Minister Mr. M. Karunaidhi (DMK Leader) proposed to build new Bus Terminus at Koyambedu near to Koyambedu market.
Mr Karunaidhi laid foundation stone for Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) and it was inaugurated Selvi J Jayalalitha by 18th November 2002. CMBT was constructed in 37 Acres land for the cost of 103 Cr. It is Asia's Largest Bus Terminus. Then EPS Govt. renamed for this Bus Terminus as Puratchi Thalivar Dr. MGR Bus Terminus.
Bus Terminus Capacity:-
It has 3 Bus fingers on which 6 platforms are present and it has bus bays for 180 buses and it has capacity of 270 buses in same time and it also has capacity for 60 buses for idle parking. But presently CMBT handles more than 500 buses which leads to overcrowded in the bus terminus as well as traffic congestion in and around bus terminus.
Transport Connectivity:-
It is well connected with MTC buses and Metro Rails
Location MAP:-
Residential Locations:-
CMBT is surrounded by many residential areas like Anna Nagar, Mugappair, Maduravoyal, Arumbakkam, Aminjikarai, Vadapalani, etc
Proposal & Action plans:-

- Kuthambakkam (Near Thirumazhisai)
Madhavaram (MMBT):-
Kilambakkam:-
It is located near to Thirumazhisai. CMDA finalized the land and it is exclusive for west bound buses like Vellore, Ranipet, Krishnagiri, Bangalore, etc.
